Planning permission has been granted for a biomass-fuelled combined heat and power (CHP) plant to produce up to 7.2 Megawatts of electricity - enough for about 9,000 homes. It's suggested that the power generated will be used to power the plant itself, with the surplus being sold back to the national grid.
It will use draff (solid grain product removed from the mash tun prior to fermentation) and pot-ale as fuel. Organic fertiliser is also to be produced as a product for local farmers.
